Last updated: 21 July 2026 · By GK Capsule Editorial Team
History is the backbone of the General Awareness section in SSC exams. On average, 3 to 5 questions are asked from History in every shift. Success in SSC History doesn't require memorizing every date; it requires understanding the PYQ trend (Previous Year Questions) and focusing on high-weightage topics like the Freedom Struggle and Delhi Sultanate.
The Maurya Empire: Ashoka's edicts, Kalinga War, and administration of Chandragupta Maurya.
The Gupta Era: "Golden Age" of India, Navratnas, and major inscriptions.
⚔️ Medieval History: The Era of Empires
Most questions in Medieval History come from the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. Pay close attention to:
Delhi Sultanate: Sequence of dynasties (Slave → Khilji → Tughlaq → Sayyid → Lodi), Iltutmish, Alauddin Khilji's market reforms, and Muhammad bin Tughlaq's experiments.
Mughal Empire: Battles of Panipat, Akbar's administration (Mansabdari), architecture (Taj Mahal, Red Fort), and the decline under later Mughals.
Vijayanagara & Marathas: Krishnadevaraya and Shivaji Maharaj's administration (Ashtapradhan).
🇮🇳 Modern History: The Struggle for Independence
This is the most critical section. If you are short on time, cover this first. Focus on:
While Modern History has the highest weightage, skipping Ancient and Medieval can cost you 2-3 marks, which is huge in the final merit list. Aim for balanced coverage.
